The best snacks are easy to grab, taste good, and actually fill you up so you have enough energy to get to your next meal.
Your snacks are making you HUNGRIER.
Well, most of them are.
If you’re the kind of person to feel peckish between meals, you’re not alone. But unfortunately, most of your snacks are probably making you feel HUNGRIER, not fuller.
That’s because most snacks like pretzels, chips, cheez puffs, or even “healthy” snacks like a handful of grapes or an apple contain a hefty amount of carbs WITHOUT a dose of protein or fat — the two macros that keep you feeling satiated.
So next time you head out to the grocery store, try picking up some of these babies instead. They’re packed full of protein and fat to keep you full until your next meal!
It may seem weird, but having a pack of Applegate deli turkey in the fridge makes for a great snack. Spread a little mustard on it and roll it up — delish!
Tillamook’s medium cheddar cheese snacks are another great fridge staple to have around. I like snacks like this that are pre-portioned so I can throw them in my lunchbox without having to think.
Columbus makes these crazy good prosciutto wrapped mozzarella cheese sticks that are perfect for a pinch. And there’s 25g of protein in this container!
Perfect Bars are one of the only protein bars I’ll eat and that’s because of how delicious they are and how nice they are on my tummy. Coconut Peanut Butter is the best flavor, too, so give that one a try!
I know it sounds weird, but Vital Farms eggs are one of my favorite snacks. You can have them hard-boiled, or mix a few up in a coffee mug and stick in the microwave for a minute or two. Tah-dah! Scrambled eggs! I like topping mine with salsa.
Another weird (but delicious) snack? Chicken sausages! These Aidells Chicken & Apple ones are pre-cooked, too. So if you feel like being lazy, just grab one and take a bite!
I typically have Chobani Greek yogurt for breakfast, but it packs a big protein punch as a snack, too. Add some frozen berries and you’ve got yourself something sweet to keep you satiated.
Applegate also makes these cute snack packs if you feel like adding a little crunch to your day. There’s nothing wrong with a few crackers when you have 15g of protein coming in from the meat & cheese!
Looking for more protein ideas that involve zero types of cooking? Wild Planet has you covered with their Albacore Wild Tuna and Wild Sardines. And good quality canned salmon is another great one. I would recommend keeping these as your “at home alone” snacks though, since they get a little smelly.
Almonds are another one of my favorite snacks, but I’m always sure to get the whole & natural kind. Why? Because the roasted and spiced ones almost always contain some kind of nasty vegetable oil. And no one needs that in their life!
Pork Clouds pork rinds are another great option if you’re craving something crunchy but not super carb-heavy.
Chomps meat sticks are some of the best out there since they don’t add any of the icky sugars and preservatives that can be found in traditional jerky.
And the same thing goes for Epic brand! Their bison strips & bone broths have all of the good stuff and none of the ick. And now that it’s getting cool again, a nice warm cup of bone broth is starting to sound amazing.
No matter what snack you choose, adding some protein and fat is sure to keep you satiated (and your hanger at bay)! And if you really DO just want the apple, try pairing it with some nut butter to make it a more complete snack.
